509. Matt Novakovich on Alaska, Spartan Glory Days, Grief, and Return to Killington!

October 7, 2026

We first met Matt Novakovich back in November of 2014 at the Spartan Race World Championship viewing party just outside of Fenway Park in Boston!

We had him on the show back in 2018 on episode 89 when we covered Killington in person by doing finish line interviews.

Between him losing his son, being public about his grief, and him returning to Killington to be honored, we figured it would be a great time to have him on the show for his own episode.

We discuss his athletic background, his love for Alaska, how he found OCR, what it was like being on the Spartan Pro Team during the glory days of the sport, his return to Killington for the Beast, and how he has been handling his son’s death.

Start – 4:00 – Intro
4:00 – 15:52 – Quick News
15:52 – 17:23 – Content Preface
17:23 – 27:59 – Matt Novakovich Interview
40:04 – End – Outro

Next weekend we will be at Obstacle Wonderland’s Halloweird on Sunday October 11th so most likely an episode covering that!
