When Hawk Call started getting into some big Spartan Races a few years ago it got a lot of us who have been in the sport for a long time pretty excited! This is because many of us remember his father Hobie who is almost always in the conversation of who historically is one of the best men in the sport of OCR.
Hawk is his own own athlete though, and I didn’t want to have him on the show just to talk about his dad. It didn’t take long for him to start to make a name for himself though, and it quickly became more of an issue of having an open weekend for the show and have him on for his own episode.
Following his recent win at the Spartan US National Series Race in Big Bear we realized that we had a couple weeks where we could be flexible with episode content so Mike reached out to schedule an interview!
We discuss what it was like growing up in the sport, his style of training and racinging, his thoughts on the 3K format, how his recent Spartan Big Bear race went, nutrition, his preperation for the upcoming Broken Arrow Skyrace, where his athletic focus is, and much more!
