July 28, 2024
This morning, moments after the conclusion of Europe’s Toughest Mudder 2024, the TM team unveiled monumental news about World’s Toughest Mudder 2025.
Shortly after, a video featuring Giles Chater of TM, Carlo Piscitello, and Fran Chiorando was posted on the WTM Community, delving deeper into this announcement.
Here’s a breakdown of the exciting news and what it means for mudders worldwide.
WTM 2025 is Moving Dates
You heard that right. No longer held in November, the event is shifting to June 28-29, 2025, five months earlier than we’ve grown accustomed to.
WTM 2025 is Leaving the USA
Even bigger news! World’s Toughest Mudder is packing its bags for a jolly, heading east to the United Kingdom.
The 2025 location will be Belvoir Castle, near Grantham. Known for hosting multiple Tough Mudder events, Belvoir Castle is perfectly placed for an international event, capable of providing a course worthy of the WTM name.
What Does This Mean for Participants?
If you’re based in the UK and Europe or love to travel, this news is likely a cause for celebration. The UK’s mudder community is large and ready to extend the same hospitality the USA has provided for years. Expect the TM brand of self-deprecating humor and silliness to ramp up, mud in glorious abundance, and a legendary British bar crawl.
For those hesitant about international travel, the early announcement allows ample time to prepare for this year’s event in the USA or plan for next year.
Why Move the Date?
Giles cited several reasons for the date shift, with weather (typical Brit) and focus of events being paramount.
The October/November period is crowded with OCR Championship events. Last year, WTM and TWC happened over the same weekend, and in 2022, some athletes traveled directly from Greece to the USA between the events. With new additions like the Croatia 100m & 5k Championships, and OCRWC in early October, athletes are pressed to choose and prepare adequately for events. It also gives the teams creating the events more time to reset, allowing for better quality events to be delivered.
Giles also commented that the time of year limits locations greatly for sourcing a good race location, and while we all love alligators, the choice of location without so many deathly creatures could be an interesting idea to explore.
The weather in the UK in November is frankly, terrible. Not to mention athletes would have roughly 3 hours of sunlight to run in. Weather in June however is… well still not great, but hopefully slightly warmer, with the added bonus of roughly 17 hours of sunlight, a fun change to an overnight event.
Why Belvoir Castle?
Belvoir Castle is centrally located in the UK, making transport from London, Manchester, and Birmingham easy. Athletes can (if they wish) utilize the UK’s excellent public transport network, avoiding the need to drive. The castle has hosted numerous TM and Spartan events, offering ample parking, clay mud, and British drama worthy of a Netflix series.
New for 2024, athletes can camp on-site, reducing travel costs and increasing TM shenanigan opportunities.
Chater mentioned that more travel guides will be provided, but the location is incredibly traveler-friendly.
Registrations for both 2024 and 2025 are now open, with the focus remaining on WTM 2024 until after the event.
