Tough Mudder announced the cancellation of Tough Mudder Scotland the night before the event was scheduled to be held.

Tough Mudder CEO Kyle McLaughlin addressed the UK Tough Mudder community in a short video posted to Facebook group. He explained the timeline of events and said they were “Upset and surprised” by the decision of Midlothian Council to revoke the license to hold the event.

McLaughlin said “Despite having completely and fully built the event, despite months of planning with Midlothian Council and Public Health Scotland; Despite just having our license approved by the council and issued 48 hours ago, the council reversed their decision and revoked our license to hold the event.”

McLaughlin was visibly upset during his announcement. “You can sense the anger and frustration in my voice. To have the rug pulled out from under us is frankly devastating.”

Regarding future action from Tough Mudder McLaughlin said “We believe that we were unfairly and unjustly treated by the Government and will be exploring all legal options available to us to ensure that this doesn’t happen to Tough Mudder or other event operators going forward.” He also said “This is not how we like to do business, but unfortunately this is how the Midlothian Council is choosing to do business.”
