The Kardashian family is the most dominant force in social media today. The five Kardashian and Jenner sisters have 842 million followers on Instagram alone. Their flagship television show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians still attracts millions of viewers each week, even after 20 seasons.
The recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians “Winners Take All” featured the Kardashian sisters facing off against their Jenner sisters in a Spartan race.
The girls ran a custom course designed to fit inside the backyard of their Malibu house overlooking the ocean. The course had seven obstacles with a course length of one large backyard.
The course began with a run up the stairs that led down to the beach from their house. Once the runners made it up the stairs they had seven obstacles to complete before crossing the finish line.
Obstacles featured were:
Two 4-Foot Walls
Runners could opt out of an obstacle but would take a :15 second penalty for each obstacle they skipped. Some of the obstacles were modified from what you would see on a typical Spartan course.
The Low Crawl at a Spartan Race is traditionally a barbed wire crawl. The KUWTK race used netting to make sure the runners stayed close to the ground.
The Dunk Wall at a Spartan Race will force you to go underwater through a disgusting mixture of mud and water. The KUWTK Dunk Wall was much cleaner, sending them under the dunk wall set up in their backyard pool.
The KUWTK Spear Throw looked very similar to what you would see on course at a regular Spartan. It even had a rope attached to the spear to pull back the spear for missed attempts. The only noticeable difference between a standard Spear Throw and the modified version was the foam target was much closer than at a regular race.
The 4-foot walls were standard OCR walls, four feet high. Other than being made of clean lumber, these were the same walls you would see on course at any race.
The Inverted Wall looked like a standard inverted wall. It was difficult to tell the height of the wall, but the construction of it looked the same as it would be on any Spartan course.
The Slip Wall was built like a slip wall on any other Spartan course. It may have been a few feet shorter than a standard Slip Wall.
The Hercules Hoist used a Spartan Kettlebell instead of a sandbag as a weight. The weight of the kettlebell was not given, although they are available from 5 to 50 pounds. The kettlebell used for the KUWTK appeared to be between 20 and 30 pounds. On a regular Spartan course the Hercules Hoist will weigh from 90-105 pounds for the men and 60-75 pounds for the women.
The race was originally planned to pit Khloe, Kourtney, and Kim Kardashian against Kylie and Kendall Jenner. Kylie dropped out of the competition due to a sinus infection and Kim was a last-minute scratch due to a cyst on the back of her knee. That left Kendall Jenner alone to take on Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian in the first-ever Kardashian Spartan Race.
Khloe ran the course first. She made it through the first two obstacles easily before missing her first spear throw. She stuck it on her second attempt and moved on. Khloe opted to skip the Inverted Wall and take the :15 second penalty because she said “I have long nails that I’m not willing to break”.
Khloe made it up and over the Slip Wall and pulled up the Herc Hoist without any problem. She crossed the finish line in 2:33. The adjusted time for Khloe with her :15 second penalty was 2:48, just shy of three minutes.
Kendall Jenner ran next. Kendall made it past the first set of obstacles without difficulty before nailing her spear throw on the first attempt. As Kendall went over the Inverted Wall she slid down the backside, missing the step for her feet on the way down. Despite her family’s concern over “ass splinters” she kept running. Kendall completed the last obstacles without incident and finished with a time of 2:35.
Kourtney Kardashian was the last runner. Kourtney started off faster than her sisters through the first several obstacles before getting to the Inverted Wall. Kourtney struggled to reach the top edge to pull herself up and over. “This obstacle course is made for tall people” Kourtney said. “I’m 5’1″ and proud, but I’m at a disadvantage here”
After making it over the Inverted Wall she finished the last few obstacles and crossed the finish line. Kourtney’s course time was 2:39, good for second place.
Final race results for Spartan Racing with the Kardashians: In first place was Kendall Jenner with a time of 2:35. In second was Kourtney Kardashian in 2:39, and in third place was Khloe Kardashian in 2:48. Kim Kardashian and Kylie Kardashian did not start.
