It has been a while since I picked up a new pair of OOFOS. I own several pairs including their version of slides, flip flops and two different versions of their shoes. Since they last for so long, there hasn’t been a need to order more. With winter approaching and my favorite pair of OOFOS shoes losing most of their traction at the bottom, I decided to order a new pair. This time I picked up their newest take on the shoe, a laced version the OOMG Sport Low Shoe. Here’s some thoughts on their newest product:

What is OOFOS? If you aren’t familiar with OOFOS, let me catch you up to speed. They are recovery shoes, great for post-race or anytime you are going to spend a lot of time on your feet. Essentially they absorb impact with every step but don’t provide that positive, bounce back return like traditional running shoe foam. The bottom line is they are great for comfort and whenever your feet are hurting they can make standing exponentially more pleasant.

Fit: The OOFOS website recommends going up a half size. Previously when I had ordered OOFOS they only came in whole sizes, so the half size option was new to me. I normally wear a 9.5 shoe and previously wore a 9 in OOFOS which fit well. I decided to go with the actual size, 9.5, for this order and they fit great, although there are times like walking down hill I can feel the front of the shoe. I think the ½ size up recommendation is spot on though and only picked true to size because I’ve owned size 9 before. The bottom line, listen to OOFOS if you have never owned their products. If you own several pairs like me, you can be a little bolder since you know how the others fit.

Comfort: OOFOS is the undisputed king of comfort and these shoes are no different. I was slightly concerned that the laces wouldn’t feel as comfortable as the pairs I owned that slip on. In fact, it was the opposite, the top fabric feels softer than the ones without laces. I don’t notice the laces at all when I wear them.

Options: The color options tend to be a little limited on the male side with options for black, white, blue, tan and in some other styles a bright yellow. On the ladies’ side, they tend to have more options with colors like pink, purple, red and more. With OOFOS as a brand being around a while, I’m guessing the men just haven’t been ordering crazy colors. Personally, the fewer options didn’t bother me, I like black shoes because they tend to be more versatile.

Overall: If you do Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) and don’t own a pair of OOFOS, you are missing out. They are hands down the best recovery or post-race shoe. I haven’t even found another brand that I would consider having a similar product. After World’s Toughest Mudder, the 24-hour OCR world championship, the brunch afterwards looks like an OOFOS convention. Showing up to the brunch without OOFOS is like showing up to the race without BleggMits or not sending your family/link The OCR Report live stream coverage link…it’s just not acceptable.

Pick up your pair of OOFOS today, whether you go with OOMG Sport Low Shoe or another option, and start recovering faster. The faster you recover, the strong you come back and the better you’ll be able to race again.
