It’s the middle of 2023 and Tough Mudder’s most famous DJ, Kyle “Coach T. Mudd” Raitton talks to me and a couple of friends after a 12-hour Toughest Mudder, “I’ve got a company that I’m trying to bring to World’s Toughest Mudder, and all of you are going to love them.”  Fast forward a couple of months: it’s 3 am, I’ve run 50+ miles and I turn the corner at around the halfway point of World’s Toughest Mudder. Music is blaring at the obstacle called “Coach’s Corner” and there is a sign for hot or iced coffee. Exhausted, cold, and suffering, I stop to sip on what felt like the best-tasting cup of coffee I’ve ever drank. I look at the sign for “IMMORDL”, continue my race, and immediately start looking forward to my next cup on the following lap before even finishing Coach’s Corner.

After the event, I immediately pick up some IMMORDL for myself. Now that sleep deprivation, hunger and the fog of Ultra-OCR (Obstacle Course Racing) has worn off…here are my thoughts:

What is it? IMMORDL is a “superfoods, adaptogenic herb and high elevation Arabic coffee all in one powerful blend.” In simple terms, it is a powdered instant coffee with added supplement ‘functional’ benefits that uses organic Peruvian cocoa powder to make it tasty. It’s a convenient drink that has 1g of protein and 2g of sugar per 10 oz. cup.

Taste: If you are not a fan of black coffee but want something healthier than the sugar packed drinks of your local coffee chain, you definitely need to pick up some IMMORDL. The product has almost no sugar and is low-glycemic adding much of its energizing benefits due to combination of natural herbs and superfoods, coconut milk powder, and coconut derived MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) powder. One of the ways I’ve watched people gain lots of body-fat is through constantly sipping on high glycemic sugary drinks and IMMORDL provides great taste without the negative side effects.

Convenience: The coffee comes in a powdered form, which I love. It means you can bring it with you to work, travel or wherever without having to bring an entire coffee setup. You just add hot water to the mix, stir it and it comes out tasting great. You can also mix it to create an iced product if desired, my preference except during the coldest of winter days (or at 3 am at World’s Toughest). As with most powdered coffee-type products, I would use a small amount of warm water to dissolve the liquid before adding more water/ice to cool the drink down.

Energy: Every rounded scoop contains 100mg of caffeine. The recommended amount per 8-10 oz. of liquid is two scoops, so around 200mg of caffeine. This is a great selling point for me because if I’m looking for a little more energy you can add in more or if I’m trying to keep my caffeine content down you can add less. I’ve done everything from mixing in half the amount of recommended powder to more than the recommended amount and I thought they both still tasted good. This scalability makes this a great product for anyone looking for coffee-based energy without being stuck to whatever content companies are putting in your drink.

Additional Benefits & Perks: It also includes ingredients like organic Maca, Rhodiola rosea, Mucuna pruriens, and bonded arginine silicate. I’ll focus on two of these. The first is Rhodiola rosea, a root used in some energy drinks or pre-workout that is known for improved energy and mental focus. The second ingredient I really like is Nitrosigine (bonded arginine silicate) which helps improve nitric oxide (NO) a vasodilator that helps with blood flow to tissue. Both are popular products that have proven benefits making them a great addition to IMMORDL.

Not necessarily a selling point for me but it does have other perks that many may care about is the product is paleo-certified, plant-based and vegan. For those who have more restrictive diets, whether for health or religious reasons, IMMORDL can fit into your diet year-round.

Cost: The cost per 30 serving bag is about $59. If you use the full two scoops that is just under $2 per cup, which is substantially cheaper than something you would buy at famous coffee chains. It is less than $2 than if you used two full scoops, which I don’t always do. Essentially you are paying for coffee that is priced lower than a cup from a cheap gas station but has the nutritional benefits of a high-quality product from a supplement store and tastes amazing.

Overall: The convenience, the taste, the health benefits and the cost make this a great product I would add to your pantry. For those looking for a holiday gift, a product you can pass to your pit crew to keep them warm (or yourself mid-race) or just something to add to your daily diet, I’m a big fan of IMMORDL. Whether on the go, at home or in the middle of a race, I think you’ll find IMMORDL a great and healthier treat.
