This weekend was the 2022 Spartan North American Championship race in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Lindsay Webster won the women’s title and Rylan Schadegg won the men’s title. This was the first major title win for Schadegg.
Lindsay Webster won the women’s race in front of Emma Cook-Clarke and Annie Dube.
The men’s race was notable for the strong finish by the young athletes that have been pushing for a breakthrough all year long. Rylann Schadegg earned his first Spartan title win, finishing three minutes ahead of Hawk Call in second. Shaun Stephens-Whale finished third. Reigning Spartan World Champion Ryan Atkins finished in fourth place, five minutes off the leader.
Emma Cook-Clarke led the women’s race from the start. Lindsay Webster was able to pass her near the end of the race when Cook-Clarke struggled at a Rig obstacle. This was the first race with both Webster and Cook-Clarke since Cook-Clarke’s big win at the Spartan North American Series race in Utah. With Nicole Mericle still recovering from an injury, Emma Cook-Clarke has taken the place of Webster’s biggest rival in the sport. Webster began the year planning to step back from her regular racing schedule. Her return to the sport (that she never really left) has been a highlight of the 2022 season.
